Five things to look for when looking for a new dentist
1-Dentist Credentials Knowing a dentist graduated from a reputable dental school and is a member in good standing of professional organizations such as the American Dental Association, helps you have more confidence that you are going to be in good hands. Also, more experience helps a dentist have more knowledge and refined clinical skills. You also want to make sure that they are up to date with latest technologies and treatment methods. 2-Is the dentist in network with your insurance? What if you don't have insurance? If a dentist is in network with your insurance, the preventative dental work such as exam, X-rays and cleaning will in most cases cost you nothing additional out of pocket as the insurance typically covers them at 100%. Most PPO dental insurance plans will cover 80% of restorative work such as fillings. Most importantly, the PPO in network fees are greatly reduced, saving you a lot of money if you need should treatment on multiple teeth. If you don't have dental insurance ask if they offer any other discounts and/or payment plans. 3- Modern Technology Your dentist should be offering the latest in dental technology. Digital x-rays allow the office to not only be more efficient and accurate in the diagnosis of any potential issues, but also emit far lower levels of radiation than the traditional film x-ray. There are no chemicals to dispose of either, making them a much more environmentally friendly option. Intra-oral camera will allow your dentist to show you actual pictures of any teeth in need of additional care. 4- Location You may need several visits for your dental treatment and follow-ups. You want to choose a dentist office which is not very far from your home and has convenient location and parking. 4- Hours of Operation If you are like most people and work 9am to 5pm, having a dentist who works evenings and weekends helps you not having to take many days off work. After your first appointment you can ask yourself the following questions Did the dentist explain everything, give you all the options and answer all your questions? Did the dentist and office team try their best to make you feel comfortable and have a good experience?
